In an age where the importance of citizenship education is becoming apparent to deal with the current threats to fundamental European values, many countries are implementing changes in their national policies.

The main themes include:

What is citizenship education about?

Curriculum organisation

Learning citizenship in the classroom and beyond

The assessment of citizenship education

Training teachers and school heads.

To find out more, have a look at the Eurydice brief here !

Global Citizenship Education is the core topic for 2017 of European Educational Exchanges – Youth For Understanding (EEE-YFU), the umbrella organisation of all YFU based in Europe. YFU is a world-side network providing intercultural exchange programmes for 15 to 18 years old students.

Several training courses, seminars, and a specific campaign are carried out by EEE-YFU this year, around this important topic. “Voluntaria” is one of these initiatives: an international event for and by YFU volunteers that aims celebrate volunteering and further connect a vibrant international movement, while developing volunteers’ expertise in Global Citizenship Education.

Voluntaria will be held in La Chapelle d’Abondance (France) from 15 to 20 August. The programme includes plenary sessions, workshops, open space for projects’ creation, and fun activities. Volunteers will stimulate their critical thinking, share perspectives about global citizenship, and challenge themselves to take actions that can have an impact at the local, national, and global level.
